 WELCOME TO WEEK 4

Week 4 (Jan 30- Feb 05, 2012)

During this week, participants will

  • explore online tools to enhance learners' speaking skills
  • have a hands-on activity to learn how to use the tool of their choice
  • share their findings  with their peers

Week 4 Tasks

TASK 1: Learning about speaking tools

Watch THE VIDEO to learn about SPEAKING tools:

TASK 2: Video interview

For TASK 2 we will be using http://recordr.tv/, a site which allows us to record videos with our webcams or with our microphones only.

  1. Watch the video below for the two questions we'd like you to answer.
  2. Go to http://recordr.tv/ and click RECORD (top right) to make a video of yourself  answering the 2 questions.
  3. Grab the embed code, go to our EDMODO GROUP, click on the message box, Type "Week 4:Task 2", click LINK below the message box, paste the embed code, click ATTACH, and send the message with your video response to the group.

     4. Watch what other participants share with us and use the reply button below each message to interact with at least 2 participants.

TASK 3: A video questionnaire

For TASK 3, the tool chosen is http://intervue.me/. The site allows you to create questionnaires and then have students leave video replies.

  1. Go to http://intervue.me/ and create your free account.
  2. Go to http://intervue.me/q/1680 and record a video reply answering the question.
  3. Check what other participants have said.

(To learn how to create a video questionnaire read Nik Peachey's post)

TASK 4 : Draw your family

For TASK 4, we'll try out http://sketchcast.com/, a site which allows us to record our voices while we draw on a virtual white board.

  1. Go to http://sketchcast.com/ and create your account. (If SKETCHCAST doesn't work try http://www.educreations.com instead)
  2. Click CREATE (green button)
  3. Record yourself describing YOUR FAMILY (my example)
  4. Grab the link and share it in our EDMODO GROUP.
  5. Watch some of the sketchcasts shared.

TASK 5: Explore and create

There are various tools which allow students to record their voices. Click on the NUMBERS to explore the amazing sites we've selected for you. Then, devise a lesson plan where you include one of these tools for speaking practice. Publish your lesson plan in your e-portfolio and remember to share the post with the group in EDMODO.

OMG, I'd just done task 2 and when I wanted to listen to it I realized that I need to buy a microphone, I thought that my notebook has one, but nop. Anyway, I'll buy one and do the task immediately. In the meantime, let's see what the other tasks are about.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this week's topic. I would have liked to have more time to explore tools but I'm a bit behind and have to do the lesson plan still! :-/ Anyway, thanks so much to all the moderators to help us discover a new world of teaching using video!! Viviana.
